Here&rsquo;s a closer look at four that fit into the latter category and prove that sometimes when it comes to your smile, truth really <em>can<\/em> be stranger than fiction!<\/p><!--more--><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Take Me Out<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you wear dentures, you probably already know you&rsquo;re supposed to take them out to clean them after each meal and leave them soaking in a glass of water overnight while you sleep. Unfortunately, however, one dentist reports that his patient, an elderly woman, didn&rsquo;t get that memo, and instead of taking her false teeth out each night, left them in place for months. When she finally arrived for her regular checkup, her prosthetics were not only filthy, but they had become badly damaged and discolored that they couldn&rsquo;t be saved!<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Don&#8217;t Try This At Home<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With so many people hopping onboard the DIY trend, it&rsquo;s a wonder that there aren&rsquo;t more cases of people attempting their own oral health treatments. Thankfully, for the most part, this is pretty rare. Unfortunately, however for one man who decided to drill out his own cavity himself with his household drill and got the bit stuck, he had to learn the meaning of &ldquo;don&rsquo;t try this at home&rdquo; the hard way! The good news is that his dentist was able to remove the tool from his tooth, but it certainly would have been much easier (and less painful!) if he&rsquo;d just gone to the dentist for a filling in the first place!<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stuck Like Glue<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Superglue can fix a variety of damaged household goods that might otherwise be sent to the landfill. Unfortunately, however, that does <em>not<\/em> include your smile. In fact, in one particularly sticky situation, a woman decided to try using the adhesive to reattach a dental crown that fell off. Unfortunately, however, not only did she glue the wrong tooth, but she also ended up getting it all over her mouth and down her throat, resulting in a dental emergency.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Not Your Garden Variety<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are many reasons why a patient might be suffering from a dental emergency, including a painful tooth infection. While in some cases, treating this condition requires a root canal, in one particularly shocking story, a patient thinking they had an infected tooth was surprised to learn they were actually growing a small tomato sprout in their gums! It all started when a tomato seed from a recent meal got trapped beneath their gumline, eventually forming into a tiny plant that caused a whole lot of pain. While the odds are low that this will happen to you, it certainly highlights the importance of flossing regularly!<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remember, while most dental emergencies aren&rsquo;t anything too outlandish, the good news is that no matter what brings you in, your emergency dentist has likely seen it all.
